Today is my 32nd Birthday.  I was hoping that after possibly the worst 24 months of my life dealing with family issues which are still ongoing that there would be something positive to look forward to.  Google however have done nothing but to stress me out even more with the Mayday update.  Its now almost 5 days since I saw my rankings completely nosedive on my Micro Niche Sites and there doesn’t seem to be any light at the end of the tunnel.  Now I’m a very positive person and it takes a lot to get me down but this whole thing has bowled me middle stump.

There was a slight glimmer of hope though.  I’m beginning to see a slight increase in earnings from some of my older sites.  These are sites that I developed prior to getting into the Micro Niche and the John XFactor methodology arena; what is strange though as that the domains are also exact match domains.  I can’t help thinking that age DOES have something to do with this.

The older domains seem to be ranking very high for Google Image search and my referrals have gone through the roof, I always knew Image Search optimisation would be big one day but didn’t know when….just glad I did it when I did.

Ok, so as far as observations seem to go, Sara over at NoteworthyTips made an interesting suggestion that LSI was also a key driving factor with the Mayday update .  She said that it may be one of the reasons why webmasters have seen such a nosedive.  I have to say that I am inclined to lean towards this argument as one of my sites that seems hasn’t moved contains a 1,000 word article on the main homepage which is interlinked to 5 internal pages using natural languages.  Theres definitely something in it.

I think in addition to what I wrote in my last post regarding my plan of action, it may be time to increase the word count of articles to 1,000 words as opposed to the usual 500 to see if this has any effect.  Also, latent semantic indexing (LSI) will be a key part of this.  So we’ll how it goes.

I ran another ranking report yesterday using SEO Elite and some long-tails are rising and some are dopping.  The ones that are dropping seem to be ones with little or no backlinks.  I’ve already ha da few articles at Ezines approved and managed to bookmark them using BMD as well as submit the RSS feeds using RSS bot.

Based on what Sara has mentioned about LSI, I think I will look at my rankings again for the affected sites and look at the LSI and see how I can improve this.

  • sara:

Happy belated Birthday! Good luck with the LSI improvements. Don’t forget to send some new back links to the content pages you change to get them crawled and re-indexed faster. This may take some for those pages to change in rankings too so don’t be discouraged if nothing happens after a day or two.

Hopefully we will find solid solutions for the xfactor sites!

  • First of all Happy Birthday! And secondly, what a crappy birthday gift from Google. I actually found your blog from Sara’s blog and it really stinks to see people working so hard on niche sites and then having them drop off the face of the earth. I haven’t really seen a huge decrease in my blogs, but a few have dropped down a page or two. I am definitely going to go back and look over my content and try to get some more LSI into the post and do a few more backlinks to them. Good luck and hope you see an improvement soon!

  • Happy many many return of the day, then its good to hear that you have already few articles at Ezines approved and managed to bookmark them using BMD as well as submit the RSS feeds using RSS bot.
